Pearson played wide receiver at Jacksonville State University, where he developed into one of the most productive receivers in program history. During his final two seasons, he recorded 126 receptions for 2,066 yards and a school-record 30 receiving touchdowns. His breakout junior season included 67 receptions for 1,123 yards and 17 touchdowns, leading all Division I players in touchdown receptions. Pearson earned First-Team All-America honors from the Associated Press, STATS and Phil Steele and was also named a finalist for the Walter Payton Award.
